This recording studio had very particular acoustical requirements both with sound transmission and reverberation. We worked very closely with the owner and a leading industry acoustician, Al Fierstein of Acoustilog (www.acoustilog.com). One particular challenge of the renovation was the 9’ long priceless Steinway Centennial D Concert Grand piano that had to remain, in the space, during construction. We designed a hermetically sealed coffin for it that could be stood on, kicked, painted and hammered without damage or dust to the instrument. The space had to be perfect for recording a solo violinist or a 10 piece chamber ensemble. Working with Madeline Nero, Designer, we were able to marry up to date acoustical technology with old world style.
